I have a request to locate, and have called to have them locate how do I know when I can start?

    Hi Patricia,

If you look at the copy of the locate request ticket (that would have been sent to your email after you called in your request), there is a list of companies who are notified that you are doing work that may affect one of their underground lines. Each of those notified companies must respond to your request by one of the following:

    • Provide you with notification that you are 'cleared' (your work will not affect their underground line), OR
    • Provide you with information about the location of their facilities (This may be in the form of a provided map, which will include instructions on how to proceed); OR
    • Provide 'physical locates' - meaning they will place markings or flags on the ground to show where their facilities are

Once you have one of those responses from every company listed as Notified on your ticket, that means the One-Call request is complete.
PLEASE REMEMBER the following safety tips:

Use caution, hand dig only, and follow facility owners directions when digging close to identified facilities.
Consider what facilities may also be underground which are not marked as part of your One Call request (Examples are: service providers who are not members of the One Call service, or perhaps privately buried lines for garages, hot tubs, etc) If required, you can hire a private locator to find any lines not covered by your OneCall request.
Keep in mind that some members of One Call services (possible examples are municipale water and sewer providers) will not identify facilities that are on Private Property. The facility owner may only mark their lines up to where they enter the private yard.

Thanks for using the service and DIG SAFE!
